It’s taken a year to get ready but my March 22nd opening at Whip Works Gallery is fast approaching. I am looking forward to displaying my latest oil paintings alongside the colorful textiles of Cindy Henry & the whimsical sculptures of Thea Lanzisero. The postcard invitation describes our show as “Circles & Spirals, Color & Line, Quirky & Lighthearted”. The description is pulled from our individual artist statements & I happen to represent “Color & Line”.
Developing my style and technique has taken years to achieve. The layering of “Color & Line” creates a visual kinetic energy. With eyes open we never see total stillness whether it be in the air, atmosphere or actual objects. There’s always movement. I am portraying nature in these abstract compositions. It allows the viewer to feel the colors more than just focusing in on them. A sense of place and time becomes the viewer’s personal take as many of the pieces trigger memories.
I’m pleased that all my work is framed for the show. David Arnold, my number one support (and husband) has become adept at creating float frames. In the past, my canvases were gallery wrapped and left raw. They would look finished in a minimal sort of way but the framing gives the utmost of a finishing touch. I’m super excited to see my work hanging on the walls of the gallery.
I have not seen a lot of Cindy Henry’s abstracted quilts but what I have seen has always blown me away. Her use of color & her precision of stitching and line are impressive. I believe our work is going to be a good fit. I am not familiar with Thea Lanzisero’s sculptures but she has an impressive resume’ and I can totally relate to “Quirky & Lighthearted”.
The opening reception is March 22nd from 6-9. I invite everyone to come out to the Whip Works Art Center & Gallery for a nice evening of art. The gallery is top notch in feeding the soul & you can count on a nice spread of eats & drinks.
